NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WZTV) — Dogs are man's best friend, but that statement might be even more true as time goes on.
It turns out Gen Z and Millennials are more likely to adopt pets. That's according to a study from Nashville-based Mars Petcare.
They’d even switch jobs or reduce hours to spend more time with their furry friends, the study says.
And this next stat is no surprise: Pet ownership increased during the pandemic. Many reports cite the unconditional love of a pet can do more than keep you company. One thing they're known for is reducing stress.
Mars Petcare says Gen Z and Millennials are taking pet ownership to a whole new level since the world changed. The study says 64% of Gen Z and 56% of Millennials would "switch jobs or reduce hours to sustain the increased time with their pets."
Both groups are also hitting the road to find the best conditions for their furry friend, either moving or willing to move to pet-friendly community and bring pets along on vacations.
However, about 70% of people who participated in the study say finding pet-friendly housing is still an issue.
And despite more efforts on adoption, there are still an estimated 48 million homeless pets across the U.S. and only about 5.4 million are in shelters, Mars Petcare says it’s an even bigger issue in the South with 72% of shelters having more pets than they’re able to adopt.
