Roads start to open after 'considerable' gas leak detours traffic in Franklin

(City of Franklin)

The Franklin Police Department shut down roads after a gas leak near Cool Springs and Carothers on Thursday.

Both Franklin firefighters and police officers were on the scene and asked drivers to avoid the area of northbound Carothers and eastbound Cool Springs. A police spokesperson said construction workers in the area were drilling a hole and struck a 4-inch gas line around 2 p.m.

No evacuation was required in the area and no one was injured. As of 5 p.m., eastbound Cool Springs Blvd remains closed east of Carothers, and crews are working to re-open the road within the next 30 minutes.

Police said they shut the natural gas off to bypass the break and repair the line.
