SPRINGFIELD, Tenn. (WZTV) --- Investigators are trying to figure out what caused a fire that killed four children in Robertson County early Monday morning.

Firefighters responding to a house fire on Poplar Avenue found heavy flames, and were told that people were still inside the home.

Four people were able to get out, but four children died inside the home. The Springfield Fire Department says among those four children are two boys and two girls, ages 4, 7, 8, and 9.

A man and an 8-year-old are both at Vanderbilt Hospital this morning. The man is in very critical condition.

Right now, fire investigators are looking for evidence of smoke detectors in the home.
