Firefighters evacuated homes along Bryan Street for a gas leak on Tuesday night.

Firefighters and Piedmont Gas workers responded to a gas leak at 13th Street and Bryan Street, according to a spokesperson for Piedmont Gas. A natural gas pipeline was damaged by a third party.

The Nashville Office of Emergency Management said Nashville firefighters evacuated approximately 40 homes or apartments in the area. Crews are looking for a church or gym nearby to hold people displaced by this gas leak.

Metro Nashville Police said Elliston Street was blocked off at 12th Street and 13th Street. Bryan Street was blocked off at 12th Street and 13th Street.

The call for the gas leak came over around 4:30 p.m.

At 8 p.m., the Nashville Fire Department said they're hoping people displaced by gas leak can return home within the hour. People who live closer to the gas leak will need NFD to come check the home to make sure it's safe before re-entry.
