MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WZTV) — An elderly woman has serious injuries after escaping a Murfreesboro home overtaken by flames and heavy smoke early Tuesday morning.
When Murfreesboro firefighters arrived to the scene at around 3:15 a.m., the woman was outside of the home on Sycamore Circle. Construction workers at a house nearby heard her screaming for help and assisted in getting her to a safe distance from the burning home.
The woman was treated on the scene by MFRD and personnel with the Rutherford County Emergency Medical Services before she was rushed to Ascension Saint Thomas Rutherford. From there, she was taken to Vanderbilt Medical Center Burn Unit. There is no update on her condition at this time.
Crews say they worked quickly to extinguish the fire that had engulfed the single-story home. Red Cross also came out to the scene.
