A man faces a DUI charge after crashing into a Clarksville apartment, trapping a resident underneath the car inside the bedroom.

Clarksville Police responded to the 2000 block of Tiny Town Rd. for a crash at around 1:26 a.m. As they arrived, a 2013 Hyundai Sonata that had crashed into the apartment building caught their eye.

Officers tell FOX 17 News the car ran off the road and down an embankment before going up another embankment, becoming airborne and then crashing into the bedroom of an apartment that was several feet off the ground. A resident of the apartment was in bed at the time of the crash and became trapped underneath the car.

The resident was rushed to a Nashville hospital for non life-threatening injuries. The apartment complex was structurally condemned, displacing 12 adults and four children.

The driver, identified as 18-year-old Rahul Malakar of Ft. Campbell, is charged with DUI, vehicular assault and reckless endangerment. Toxicology results are pending as the investigation continues.

Anyone with information about the crash is asked to call Investigator Halford at (931) 648-0656 ext. 5333.
