'Data Breach': Civil liberties org says data of Tennesseans among most shared in U.S.
NASHVILLE, Tenn.--A human rights and civil liberties organization has published a report indicating Tennesseans are among those most-targeted by big tech and companies sharing your data.
The Irish Council for Civil Liberties (ICCL) has issued "The Biggest Data Breach" report which analyzed the scale of 'Real-Time Bidding' (RTB) in the websites and apps used in the U.S. and Europe.
RTB tracks data and broadcasts it to companies for the purchasing and selling of digital advertising. According to the report, "RTB is the biggest data breach ever recorded. It tracks and shares what people view online and their real-world location 294 billion times in the U.S. and 197 billion times in Europe every day."
The report examined and ranked real-time bidding broadcast averages per person, per day, by state. Colorado led all states and European countries with 987 estimated broadcasts per day for each person. Tennessee ranked 21st on the list with 799 broadcasts per day, per person. Not only is that more than a majority of states, it was also more than over 30 countries in Europe.
Based on the report, this means a person in Tennessee will have their activity and location exposed 799 times every day. The report adds in the U.S., 4,698 companies receive RTB data from Google and the company broadcasts data 31 billion times every day in the United States alone.
ICCL says the figures used for the report was taken from industry figures whose source is confidential.
