Ice, snow prompts school delays, causes crashes during morning commute

Travelers should watch out for slick spots Thursday morning as snow fell overnight and created some slick spots on the roads.

An accident on Briley Parkway South at Centennial Boulevard has closed several lanes. A tractor lost control on Briley Parkway south near County Line Road and went trhougha a guardrail. A bio hazard team is on scene due to a possible diesel leak. No one was injured. Officials confirm the crash is snow and ice related.

Officials say it might be after rush hour before they can clear the scene as the tractor will have to be cut out of the guardrail.

THP urging drivers to watch out for patches of thin black ice on bridges and overpasses.

A multi-vehicle crash reported at about 7 a.m. tied up traffic along Gallatin Pike. FOX 17 News Photojournalist Brian Miller reported very icy conditions in the area.

The road will remain closed until a TDOT truck can get salt on the road.

A pick up truck lost control on the I-440 ramp at about 6 a.m. TDOT says bridges and overpasses are very slick and drivers should use extra caution.

Another crash was reported in Madison on Old Hickory Boulevard westbound getting onto I-65. There's no word if that crash is weather related.

The snow has prompted some delays including Cannon, Dekalb, Putnam, Van Buren, Warren and White counties. Click here for the latest list of school closings.
