RUTHERFORD COUNTY, Tenn. (WZTV) -- A complaint was filed against a Rutherford County football coach for leading his players in a team prayer.

Rutherford County Schools confirmed with FOX 17 News that Freedom From Religion filed a complaint with the school against Rockvale High School football coach Rick Rice.

RCS said the school's principal 'addressed the issue' with Rice, who apologized for any misunderstanding. The issue has been resolved, the schools said.

RCS further states that "Any prayers or religious activities must be student-initiated and student-led. Employees are not to lead the activities or participate other than to provide supervision."

Rice is the first coach for the new school, which just opened this year. Before his move to Rockvale, Rice coached in Wayne County for 21 years. According to Wayne County News, Rice had a 203-123 record in Wayne County and made it to the playoffs for 18 straight years.
