City of Clarksville rejects downtown ice skating rink proposal, citing safety concerns
CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (WZTV) —
The City of Clarksville is saying no to a public skating rink downtown.
The Montgomery County Government wanted to open the rink later this month as part of its downtown commons development.
But city leaders say with the rest of the project still under construction, it's too dangerous right now to open the skating rink.
Mike Baker, director of Clarksville Building & Codes, said in a letter “there is not enough protection provided for segregation of the work site from the skating area and other areas to be used by the public prior to final completion of the work.”
The $4.2 million Civic Plaza project was approved in 2015 and was later renamed Downtown Commons.
