Worker killed in construction elevator accident in Nashville

Metro Police have identified the worker that died in the construction area at Centennial Medical Center as Daniel Jones, 26, of Murfreesboro.

Police say the death appears to be accidental. Jones worked for Nashville Machine Elevators. Police say he was helping a welder in a newly built elevator shaft on the 10th floor when he was hit by the elevator's pulley/counterweight system. His partner, who had been welding, heard a noise, raised his face shield, and saw that Jones had been hurt.


Metro Police say the person found dead in an elevator shaft in Nashville was killed in a work-place accident.

Police say the unidentified person was working on a construction elevator near TriStar Centennial Medical Center on Wednesday when the accident happened.

No other details were given but foul play is not suspected.

The call went out at 11:15 a.m. Wednesday at 2300 Paterson Street.

Crews were called to a construction area at TriStar Centennial Medical Center to investigate.

The Nashville Fire Department is also on scene.
