An 81-year-old woman died on Monday after she was run over by her own vehicle according to the Metro Nashville Police Department (MNPD).

Police say Joyce Hicks was visiting a friend on American Road and had parked her Nissan Sentra at the top of a hill.

Hicks put her car into gear to drive away but the Sentra rolled back into a trash can. Hicks exited the car to move the trash can and fell to the ground.

Her car was still in gear and rolled backwards over her until stopping in the front yard of a home. Hicks was transported to the hospital but died a short time later.
