NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WZTV) — The Davidson County Republican Party on Tuesday issued a statement regarding a Metro Schools board member's "violent" language directed towards U.S. Sen. Marsha Blackburn.
The GOP's statement confirms it was Dr. Sharon Gentry who made the comment, "Can we just go set Marsha Blackurn on fire?" The remark was caught on a hot mic while school board members were in recess.

Davidson County Republican Chairman James Garrett says Gentry should "do the right thing and resign." He released the following statement this week:
We’ve seen some pretty extreme things coming from the Democrats and School Board in the last few years, but this one takes the cake. We utterly condemn this disgraceful behavior from Dr. Gentry, and she should do the right thing and resign her seat for the sake of setting an example for the school system she supposedly represents.
One thing is very clear – in Davidson County these are no longer the sensible and patriotic Democrats many of our parent’s generation used to vote for. Locals will be taking note and we challenge the rest of the MNPS School Board and Democrat Party to now officially condemn Dr. Gentry’s remarks, too.
Last week, a Metro Schools parent told FOX 17 News suggesting violence against a public official sets a terrible example. The mother also said she thinks Gentry should step down.
"The most concerning part is these are board members that are supposed to be the leaders for one of the two biggest school districts in Tennessee," the parent said. "And children are supposed to look up to them."
We reached out to Dr. Gentry last week for a comment. She hung up on us.
