NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WZTV) — A kitten that was found abandoned in a drain with all four paws nearly cut off is getting some much needed help from the Nashville Humane Association (NHA), but its journey to a new life will be a long one.
"Someone cruelly and intentionally attempted to cut off his paws," NHA posted on Instagram about the kitten now fondly known as "Tippy."
A Good Samaritan found Tippy Friday afternoon, scared and mangled in a drain.
NHA staff said all four of Tippy's paws were nearly cut off and his condition was "pretty gruesome even for the toughest of us."
"All four of his paws have been nearly cut off. Not amputated, because that would imply it was done by a medical professional. Someone cruelly and intentionally attempted to cut off his paws," NHA wrote on Instagram. "We have him stabilized for now, but to be honest, we don’t know what the future holds for this kitty. One thing you can be sure of is that we will do everything we can to help him."
But Tippy has a fighter's spirit, NHA says. Right now, he's through the darkest time, but he's not out of the woods yet.
After several initial procedures and his paws getting the necessary treatment, Tippy was stabilized.
However, Tippy's road ahead will be a long one.
"It will still take some time to figure out to what extent things can be "salvaged" and how much surgery he is going to need," NHA wrote in an updated post on Instagram. "What you can be assured of is he is in the very capable hands of Dr. Anderson, our Chief Vet, and the entire Vet Care and Animal Care teams at NHA."
NHA has used funds from its Emergency Medical Fund to help pay for Tippy's care and asks anyone who wishes to help out to donate here.
In the future, Tippy will need a foster home. Click here on how to inquire about becoming a foster parent.
