Ongoing construction forces Overton High to delay start of school year

(Fox 17 News)

Continuing construction has forced John Overton High School to delay the start of the school year.

Classes will now start for those student on Aug. 9, instead of Aug. 7.

The construction is part of a $40 million, two-year renovation plan that will upgrade nearly every part of the 14-acre campus.

"Delaying the opening of Overton by two days will give Overton’s staff the time they need to prepare for a great school year," Metro Schools said in a release. "Overton will have 28 teachers who are new to the school and 115 of a total of 175 staff will be working in new classrooms or office space."

Students will makeup the missed days from Dec. 12 to 15, which are half-days for other Metro students.
