100% of Tennessee in drought, 90% of Mid-State in severe drought
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WZTV) —
A new drought monitor released Thursday indicates that the entire state of Tennessee is in a drought, and 90 percent of the mid-state is in a severe drought.
Here are some quick facts about this historic drought released on Nov. 17:
Sky Watch 17 Chief Meteorologist Katy Morgan said the eastern half of the state (including the Plateau) is seeing the driest 60 day time period ever recorded, from Sept. 16 to Nov. 14.
The Nashville Metro area is experiencing the second driest 60 day stretch -- only by 0.02” driest is 1.76” in 1953, we’re at 1.78” now.
Tennessee is on target to record the driest Sept-Nov on record.
Temperatures rank #1 warmest since 1871 here in the mid-state (for Sept-Nov) Nashville average 67.5” but normal is 60.5” (+7 degrees difference).
