Freeze Warning, Cumberland Plateau Advisory

Winter-like conditions will be possible for middle Tennessee this weekend. A freeze warning is in effect for Friday and Saturday night. Temperatures will drop to around the freezing mark in Nashville and upper 20s outside the metro area. Saturday night will be even colder with temperatures dropping as low as the mid-20s outside the metro. Breezy NW winds will add to the chill. Bring plants and pets indoors for the weekend and make sure outdoor vegetation is protected as well. In addition to the cold, rain showers along the Cumberland Plateau will change over to light snow overnight.

Metro Council Mulls Home Construction Limits -- Jen French

NASHVILLE (Jen French) -- After concerns over too much development, neighbors now have somewhat of a say regarding what can and can't be in their backyard, but Metro Council still has more to vote on.

Tuesday night, Council members approved changes to bill BL2014-771, which addresses the city's contextual overlay district. Neighborhood associations now have the option of adopting 771, which prohibits home foundations to be any taller than 3 feet and restricts 1.5 story buildings to be no more than 27 feet. Previously, foundations could be up to 7 feet tall.

Council members will revisit BL2014-770 September 9. 770 addressed two family dwellings, or duplexes. Duplexes can still be built, but council members and developers are still discussing where garages can be placed.

Council member Walter Hunt (District 3) says he's received thousands of emails from concerned homeowners about unsightly buildings. He told FOX 17 he's pushing for garages to only be built next to or behind a home, rather than in front.

If passed, both bills are only options for neighborhood associations to adopt.
