STEER CLEAR TRAFFIC:

CHEATHAM CO., Tenn. -- A semi carrying pigs caught fire early Friday morning on I-40 in Cheatham County.

The call of the fully-engulfed tractor-trailer on I-40 W. at mile marker 190 went out at midnight. The Tennessee Highway Patrol reports the semi to be carrying an unknown amount of pigs.

The driver coming from North Carolina was not injured, according to the THP. They say the fire started on the truck after a tire blew.

An unknown number of pigs are confirmed dead. Injured pigs are being checked out by Cheatham Animal Control, says THP.

I-40 West reopened after being shut down for a couple hours, but lanes are estimated to be blocked until around 6 a.m.
