Uber Drivers to Strike Over Lower Rates -- Kai Beech

You might have a tougher time finding a ride in Nashville tonight.

Drivers of Uber, the multi-billion dollar ride-share service, will go on strike at midnight.

"We're just trying to keep our share," said Bob, an Uber driver who did not want his full name revealed. "(Uber officials) don't want to deduct their commission; they just want to take it from us."

Bob has worked part-time for Uber for the past four months...as a way to make some extra cash.

"I was averaging about $600 a month," he said. "But now with the new pay cuts I will be looking at $400 to $450 a month.

The smaller paychecks come after Uber officials lowered their driver's rates. Now Bob is very upset and he's not alone. Ubers drivers from across Nashville came together Friday afternoon and decided to go on this strike.

Here's what some of them are saying online: "Uber makes me want to vomit. At the moment any price cuts and I will have to push my vehicle," one driver wrote.

"I don't even get to put my lipstick on this time," another driver added.

Bob says Uber drivers in Nashville are trying to start a union and hopefully will resolve this issue soon. But if they're not able to put the brakes on these problems he plans on taking this strike as far as he needs to.
