NASHVILLE, Tenn. -  A former Humphreys County teacher is accused of using a school-issued credit card for her personal benefit.

Heather Wardlaw, an art and social studies teacher at Lakeview Elementary School, is charged with theft in an investigation brought fourth by the DA last November. Investigators found that between August 2009 and November 2013, the 40-year-old misappropriated $11,527.41 using a school-issued Walmart credit card. They say nearly $9,000 was spent on personal items - including clothing, an iPad and alcoholic beverages.

Additionally, investigators say Wardlaw took more than $2,500 from an account belonging to an after-school basketball program she managed for her personal use.

Wardlaw turned herself in to Tennessee Bureau of Investigation agents at the Humphreys County Jail. She was released after posting $10,000 bond.
