Stream WZTV Fox 17 Newscasts LIVE starting with Fox 17 This Morning at 5am and News at 9pm.

UPDATE (7/17 10 p.m.): SYDNEY (AP) -- Several passengers on board a Malaysian jetliner shot down over Ukraine were world-renowned researchers heading to an international AIDS conference in Australia, officials said Friday.

"A number of people" on board the Boeing 777 were en route to the southern Australian city of Melbourne to attend the 20th International AIDS conference, which starts Sunday, Australian Foreign Affairs Minister Julie Bishop told reporters in Brisbane.

The plane, which was flying from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, crashed Thursday with 298 people on board. American intelligence authorities believe a surface-to-air missile brought the aircraft down but it was not yet clear who fired the missile.

At least 27 Australians were confirmed to be on board the plane, which was scheduled to continue flying to the western Australian city of Perth after stopping in Kuala Lumpur, Bishop said.

Among the passengers was former president of the International AIDS Society Joep Lange, a well-known HIV researcher from the Netherlands, opposition leader Bill Shorten said in parliament.

"There are Australians who would have planned to be at the airport tomorrow night to greet friends and family -- amongst them, some of the world's leading AIDS experts," Shorten said. "The cost of this will be felt in many parts of the world."

UPDATE (7/17 5 p.m.): Franklin police say that Johnson arranged his own surrender at his home Thursday morning at 10 a.m.

A 21-year-old Franklin man is wanted on multiple felony charges after assaulting and kidnapping his girlfriend last night, according to the Franklin Police Department.

At 11:09 p.m. on Tuesday, Franklin Police were called to Scruggs Avenue for a domestic disturbance. During an altercation in the yard, Cory Johnson allegedly assaulted his girlfriend. He is accused of getting on top of her and choking her, all while telling the victim that he was going to kill her. The department said that when the family rushed to the victim's aid, Johnson dragged her into a vehicle and left the scene.

When responding officers got behind Johnson as he was leaving the neighborhood with the victim, he allegedly began punching her in the face as she tried to escape. The victim managed to jump from Johnson's moving vehicle during the continued assault. She was treated by paramedics at the scene.

Johnson evaded officers in his maroon 2001 Ford Expedition with tinted windows and the Tennessee license plate M1128S.

Johnson is now wanted for aggravated assault, aggravated kidnapping, evading with a motor vehicle, and reckless endangerment. He remains at large.

Anyone with information on his whereabouts is urged to call police. Information leading to Johnson's capture is worth up to $1,000 with a call to Crime Stoppers: (615) 794-4000.
