Woodbury Resident Hopes to be First Woman in Cannon Co. Seat -- Kai Beech

Stream WZTV Fox 17 Newscasts LIVE starting with Fox 17 This Morning at 5am and News at 9pm.

Delinda Parton wants your vote.

The longtime Woodbury resident is running for Cannon County 3rd District Commissioner. She has a very a thrifty camp gain strategy.

"I have 'Lady Be Cheap Campaign' -- I call it," she said.

Parton's campaign may be cheap, financially, but so far, it's been effective personally; she meets her neighbors face-to-face, works the phones daily and has spent just $120 on advertisement in her local paper.

But it's Parton's least expensive item that's getting the most attention: Her campaign sign cost about a $1 to make. And it's paid of big time, becoming what they say is a local tourist attraction.

"Oh, yes; it's got a lot of attention," she said. "They drive by it, turn around and read it again."

While Parton is campaigning on a budget, her work ethic is priceless. She tends her 80-acre farm of greens beans, sweet corn and cattle with help from just her sister and dad. And she hopes all that hard work and the ability to stretch a dollar will pay off at the ballots.

If Parton wins this election, she says she'll be the first woman ever to hold this position in the third district.
