Chinese River Turns Blood Red

Residents in the eastern Chinese province of Zhejiang in the village of Xinmeizhou have no idea why their waterway has turned a blood red color, according to CNN.

Early theories that someone dumped food coloring during heavy rain was debunked when it was discovered it had not rained recently.

ABC News said the river was fine last Thursday, and in fact is known to be clear.

Jianfeng Xiao, chief of the Wenzhou Environmental Protection Bureau, told China News said there is a food coloring company, a paper manufacturer and a clothing maker along the river, but no connection has been established.
