Mother Keeps Ketchup Despite Son's Life-Threatening Allergy

Stream WZTV Fox 17 Newscasts LIVE starting with Fox 17 This Morning at 5am and News at 9pm.

A mother in Wales is stirring international debate after making the decision to keep ketchup in the house even though her two-year-old son has a rare allergy to tomatoes which could cost his life.

Little Ruben Curie's allergy could lead to fatal shock, something which could have happened after he touched ketchup with his fingertip for mere seconds before his mom washed it off. According to his mother Kasi, "my children were eating their tea of chicken nuggets and somehow Ruben got a drop on the tip of his finger. I grabbed a cloth and washed his hands immediately, the ketchup was only on his finger for only seconds."

Those seconds were all it took for Ruben to go into anaphylactic shock and rushed to the emergency room. The photo above shows just how bad his reaction was to the ketchup, but despite the harrowing ordeal, his mom says ketchup will continue to stay in their household. Speaking to Wales Online she says "it's not fair to my other children to deny them. I'll just make sure Ruben goes nowhere near it."

Ruben was able to recover fully after a steroid injection and was released the same day. (Photo: Medavia.co.uk)
