Local Bookstore Offers Books Not Available From Amazon During Publisher Dispute -- Eric Alvarez

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - You may be dying to read popular summer books but you might not be able to order them from Amazon.

It's all because of a book battle between the online book seller and Hachette Book Group over the price the books will sell for on Amazon.

Amazon and one of the leading New York publishers has intensified.

The online retailer, which already had been slowing delivery on a wide range of Hachette titles, has removed pre-order buttons for such books as Connelly's "The Burning Room" and Rowling's "The Silkworm," a detective story coming out next month that she wrote under the pen name Robert Galbraith.

Nashvilles Parnassus Books supports the publisher and is selling Hachette books in its Green Hills store

"It's a real problem because Amazon is such a big player in this and they can control the pricing on books, said Karen Hayes, Parnassus Books co-owner.  They are able to price books so that they are not making any money on them.

The independent bookstore even features a sign in the window that reads, Thanks, Amazon, the indies will take it from here.

Last month, Amazon posted a statement on their website that reads, though we remain hopeful and are working hard to come to a resolution as soon as possible, we are not optimistic that this will be resolved soon.
