Ducks Mysteriously Dying on Old Hickory Lake- Meagan O'Halloran

Stream Fox 17 newscasts LIVE starting with TN Mornings at 5 am and News at 9 pm.

MT. JULIET- Several ducks along Old Hickory Lake turned up dead Sunday. Catlin Gentry claims he saw several ducks flock near his dock and convulse into seizures before dying. According to Gentry, the ducks died in groups throughout the day. By mid-afternoon Sunday Gentry found twenty ducks dead in and around the water bank.

The TWRA is investigating. The TWRA will send some of those deceased ducks off out-of-state for necropsy and toxicology testing.

Until the ducks are analyzed, and the cause of death is determined, I wouldnt point a finger at anybody said Lt. Jim Hooper with the TWRA.

At this point, its unclear if the ducks died from coming in contact with something in the water, or if they were poisoned or ate something that killed them.

The TWRA calls it concerning and says it is very unusual for several animals to die in the same location.

It could take anywhere from days to months to receive lab test results. In the meantime, if you see anything unusual in the water report it to the TWRA and avoid the area.
