Puppy Mill Raid Sends Animals To Middle TN -- Sky Arnold

Franklin, Tenn --- Lisa Cloud has been fostering dogs for five years.

The two she's picking up today have seen better days.

"Tamale" and "Bug" are among the 247 seized from a puppy mill in Bradley County run by Rebecca Van Meter.

"They're in really bad shape but unfortunately I've seen it too many times," said Cloud.

Many of the dogs have little hair because their immune system is so poor.

The District Attorney General in Bradley County says Van Meter was having trouble selling them and got overwhelmed.

She's now facing a single charge of cruelty to animals.

Most of the dogs are in animal rescue operations in East Tennessee but because there's so many of them, at least 26 are coming to operations in Middle Tennessee.

15 are expected to arrive at the Nashville Humane Association Thursday.

The Snooty Giggles Animal Rescue that's working with Cloud is getting 11.

"All the dogs are Beagle mixes.  Well if we had 110 beagle mixes in one area that needed homes you're not gonna find houses for them in that area so you spread them out," said Shawn Aswald with Snooty Giggles.

Unlike many mills where the dogs are specific breeds, the animals Snooty Giggles is caring for are all various Beagle mixes.

"From what I'm seeing it looks like a science experiment," said Aswald.

As bad as they look all of them are expected to eventually recover in the care of foster homes like Cloud's.

"They will be beautiful.  They'll have hair they'll all come back," said Cloud.
