NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Serpents could be slithering under your floorboards right now and you might not even know it, experts say.

Snake experts with Trapper Jack Wildlife Specialists say heavy rains often flush snakes out of yards and into midstate homes.

Just last week they had to clear out this nest of 12 snakes out of a home in Brentwood.  The largest was four feet long.

The company says venomous snakes like copperheads, cottonmouths are native to Tennessee, but the more common garter snakes, rat snakes and milk snakes are completely harmless, and no-matter what kind of snake you find, it's important not to kill it.

"All snakes in Tennessee are protected," said Drew Gilliland of Trapper Jack Wildlife.  "[Families] should call a professional, have it handled and we'll take it and will release it and they'll be safe and sound."

Trapper Jack helps families remove snakes humanely as well as snake-proof their homes.
