Police in Dickson put their own lives at risk Thursday morning to pull off a daring rescue.

Residents from 20 apartments had to evacuate their homes because of floodwaters polluted with sewage.

At the time officers thought the water might be a danger for electrocution because the power was still on at the Hidden Valley Apartment Complex.

Sgt. Travis Pulley says his officers felt like they had to go into the waist deep water because some residents were trapped.

"When somebody is needing help we're gonna go whatever the circumstances are you gotta take a calculated risk and do what you gotta do," said Pulley.

Sgt. Pulley says he carried one woman to safety on his back.

By the afternoon, those residents were rushing to remove anything they could salvage from the 12 ground level apartments.

"It's awful it's contaminated it's bad," said Pat Law.

Law spent the afternoon helping a friend move stuff out from one of the buildings.

Law says her friend described the flood as being like a tsunami.

"She said she felt like she was in the titanic," said Law.
