Federal Government Paying Big Bucks to Fight Homelessness

Stream WZTV Fox 17 Newscasts LIVE starting with Fox 17 This Morning at 5am and News at 9pm.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Federal Government has pledged to spend 1.6 billion dollars on fighting homelessness.  About 3 million dollars of that federal money will be used here in Nashville.

The Nashville Homelessness Commission's director is adamant that the money is necessary to help their programs run.  The Commission has helped nearly 500 people find permanent housing since June.

But not everyone agrees that the money will be well spent.  The Beacon Center of Tennessee's CEO argues that the local governments and charities should shoulder the responsibility of taking care of the homeless population and that the Federal Government should stay out of the way.
