Sumner County Bus Driver Charged with Sexual Assault of Student

Stream WZTV Fox 17 Newscasts LIVE starting with Fox 17 This Morning at 5am and News at 9pm.

A Sumner County school bus driver has been arrested and fired after police say he was caught on video having sexual contact with a 12-year-old female student on his bus, according to school district spokesman Jeremy Johnson.

Jerry M. Dean, 47, of Portland, was arrested Friday and charged with three counts of aggravated sexual assault.

The incident was reportedly captured on the bus' audio and video monitoring system.

Officials say they looked into the situation after another driver noticed the student on Dean's bus when no students were supposed to be on there. School officials reviewed the bus camera footage and discovered the incident.

Given the video evidence, Johnson said Dean did not have to go through the normal waiting period for termination and was fired Monday.
