Houston Woman's Best Friend Sleeps With 13-Year-Old Son

HOUSTON, Tex.-- A Houston woman suffering from a gallbladder infection who was forced into multiple trips to the hospital naturally reached out to someone she trusted to watch her 13-year-old son.

That woman was Karen Lee Carstens.

But instead of taking care of the child, she sexually assaulted him. In a report from KHOU, Carstens has been convicted for sexual abuse of a child after it was found she had systematically abused the boy over the three month period every time his mom was in the hospital.

The boy described how Carstens, then 28 years his senior, first assaulted him in 2009, leaving him crying after the episode. The assaults continued until Carstens moved out of the state. Before leaving, she told the boy not to talk about the relationship and to keep it a secret.

Investigators found enough evidence to indict Carstens, ultimate leading to  conviction last week which resluted in a five year sentence. The boy, now 19 years old, says he believes Carstens "deserved everything she got."
