NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- A woman allegedly beats her daughter in the head outside an apartment in Davidson County and then hides the evidence.

On Saturday, witnesses say they observed 30-year-old Shatika Terrell beating her 12-year-old child in the face while she held on to a railing and with a stick when the child didn't let go. Metro police responded, saying the child was bleeding from her nose, lips and side of her head.

Terrell tells police that she only spanked the child with a belt and her hand, according to the police report.

Witnesses informed police that Terrell his the blood-soaked shirt the daughter was wearing. Terrell, according to the report, admitted to police that she hid the shirt and a piece of wood in the hallway closet.

Terrell is charged with aggravated assault and tampering with evidence. She is in jail on a $40,000 bond.
