Metro's Office of Emergency Management (OEM) partially activated the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) at 2 p.m. Wednesday afternoon.

In an official press release, OEM said the activation is in anticipation of strong storms coming into the area that could bring heavy rain, damaging winds and the potential for tornadoes.

"It is important to make sure you have your emergency weather radio on, with battery backup, so you can be awakened if needed," the release warned residents. "If commuting, please stay tuned to your local radio station for emergency alerts."

Agencies initially activated at the EOC will include: Metro Office of Emergency Management, Metro Police, Davidson County Sheriff's Office, Nashville Fire & EMS, Metro Public Works, Metro Water Services, Nashville Emergency Communications, Metro Nashville Public Schools, Metro Information Technology, Metro Planning/GIS, Nashville Electric Service, AT&T, Metro Transit Authority, Amateur Radio, Red Cross and the Local Voluntary Organizations Active in Disasters.
