Experts Say Don't Wash Your Jeans -- Sky Arnold

Nashville, Tenn  ---  Carrie Eddmenson started working on creating jeans when she was 12.

Over the years she's come to see denim as something much more than clothing.

"They're literally like a fingerprint.  It is impossible for any one person's jean to look like the other if we practice less water," said Eddmenson.

The co-creator of Nashville jean maker Imogene Willie is talking about the way your jeans wear over time.

Those changes are much more visible when you don't wash the jeans and that's something Eddmenson sees as a life timeline.

"I think it's the most beautiful thing on Earth," said Eddmenson.

It's one reason why Imogene Willie encourages customers to wash their jeans very little if ever.

It's a concept that gained attention this week when Levi's CEO Chip Bergh said he doesn't wash his jeans either.

Fox 17 asked people in downtown Nashville if they'd be willing to go without washing and most said no.

"I personally like to wash my jeans cause they're hot and they get sweaty and stinky,"said Lee Moseley.

Eddmenson says she deals with the smell by using Febreeze.

When she does wash jeans it's usually in the tub with water only or a little bit of Woolite.

She also says she never dries them.
"The worst thing you can do for jeans is to wash them all the time," said Eddmenson.

The other advantage of not washing jeans is they last longer.

Eddmenson says there are jeans can last decades and have no holes in them if they're not washed.
