Maury County Sees Burglaries Targeting Pills -- Sky Arnold

Stream WZTV Fox 17 Newscasts LIVE starting with Fox 17 This Morning at 5am and News at 9pm.

There may be more cows on Joelene Parks' rural Maury County road than people.

For the first time in more than 40 years of living here she's worried about safety.
"Yes I feel violated," said Parks.

Friday morning someone pried open Parks' metal security door while she was away for 15 minutes to go to the store.

It was enough time for the burglars to make off with her prescription medication but for some reason that's all they wanted.

The burglars didn't steal her jewelry or television set.

"I don't have a clue to who it might have been," said Parks.

Parks is one of ten victims telling the exact same story in Maury County.

Captain Jimmy Tennyson says it appears the same burglar or burglars are responsible and they're specifically looking for prescriptions.
"They know what they're looking for so they get the quick stuff," said Tennyson.

Those break-ins began Friday and continued through the weekend in parts of Columbia, Culleoka and Spring Hill.

Tennyson says it's believed the victims are chosen completely at random when they're not home.
"The main concern and worry is somebody getting hurt," said Tennyson.

That's something Parks has been thinking about too.
She could have easily stumbled upon the burglar who broke through her door.
"More than likely when I find out who it is they're gonna pay for a door," said Parks.
