Nashville Symphony Keeps Angelou's Spirit Alive -- Eric Alvarez

Stream WZTV Fox 17 Newscasts LIVE starting with Fox 17 This Morning at 5am and News at 9pm.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. The Nashville Symphony is keeping Maya Angelous spirit alive.

In September of 2013, the symphony performed and recorded Darkness in the Ancient Valley," a CD which features musical adaptations of seven of Angelou's poems.

There were moments in the concert that you could hear a pin drop, said Giancarlo Guerrero, music director.  "This is poetry that is for every single person that can open and read a book.  It's beautiful it's comforting, it's funny, It's sad, it's melancholy.  It is a wealth of emotions.

A wealth of emotions from one of the nation's most renowned artists wasn't easy to capture, but Guerrero says now Angelous words will live on forever in Music City.

I am very proud and honored that Nashville as a community can claim a big part of her legacy and really think of her as one of our own, Guerrero said.
