A study conducted by Penn State researchers finds work is actually less stressful than being at home.

According to researcher Sarah Damaske, "women as well as men have lower levels of stress at work than at home." Damaske and her fellow researchers swabbed 122 participant's saliva six times a day and tested their cortisol (stress marker) levels along with asking questions about how they felt during the study.

Although most participants would state they felt better when at home, their cortisol levels told a different story. "we found that people have significantly lower levels of stress at work than at home."

As for participants who were parents, they showed a drop in cortisol levels when at work, but the decrease wasn't as big as those without kids. Either way, the study finds the notion of cutting back on work or quitting to focus on at-home issues could actually do more harm than good.
