Throwdown, Ultra Violet Club Owners Agree to Make Changes

The operators of Throwdown Liquid and Ultra Violet nightclubs agreed their clubs were being operated as public nuisances and agreed to make changes, according to a Friday police press release.

The release did not say when the clubs might re-open.

According to the release, Criminal Court Judge Mark Fishburn signed an injunction instructing the operators of Throwdown, Barnum Ray Demonbreun and Jeffery Beck, and the operators of Ultra Violet, Jeffery Hargis and Joseph Allan Mulica, Ultra Violet Nightclub, to:

  • 1) Have a security guard in place for every 40 patrons, as well as having a guard in each bathroom.
  • 2) Prohibit patrons and employees, not including the guards, to have firearms
  • 3) Prohibit "happy hours" or any other discounting of beer between 11 p.m. until closing
  • 4) Set a closing time of 1 a.m. for a minimum period of 30 days after the bars reopen.  (The operators can petition later for a later closing time.)
  • 5) Make sure patrons are at least 21 years of age
  • 6) Examiner each patron's ID

Central Precinct detectives padlocked both bars last Friday pursuant to an order from Judge Fishburn after an investigation showed that repeated and recurring criminal and disorderly activities had been occurring, to include "fighting, drunkenness, breaches of the peace, and beer law violations."

"The acknowledgement by the operators of Throwdown and Ultra Violet nightclubs that changes are needed is good for downtown residents and visitors," Chief Steve Anderson said.  "Unfortunately, in some cases, it takes a public nuisance padlocking order to get the required attention of establishment owners and operators."
