Florida Mom Goes on Crack Binge, Bites Baby's Umbilical Cord Off

A premature baby and his 11-month-old brother are in custody of the Florida Department of Children and Families after the child's mother told police she went on a crack cocaine binge and bit baby's umbilical cord off when she delivered him in a hotel bathtub. 


According to Ocala.com, Chrystal A. Hassell was arrested after calling 911 when she noticed the baby turning blue. She was taken into custody, placed on suicide watch and now faces charges of child neglect.

Hassel's two children were taken and she also said she has a 16-year-old daughter who was born addicted to drugs. She added she didn't even know she was pregnant with this child until last month. 


The father of the child and his brother is currently incarcerated for attempted murder, domestic violence and possession charges. Other family members are being reviewed to see if they qualify to care for the children.
