Implosion of Hwy. 109 Bridge

Stream WZTV Fox 17 Newscasts LIVE starting with Fox 17 This Morning at 5am and News at 9pm.

A portion of Highway 109 between Sumner and Wilson counties is gone.

The Tennessee Department of Transportation blew up the truss of the bridge over the Cumberland River between Lebanon and Gallatin after 8:30 a.m. Friday. The implosion was to take place in the 5 a.m. hour, but lightning postponed the event.

Traffic was stopped beforehand. A 1500-foot barrier is set up for safety. FOX 17 is watching from the Martha Gallatin recreation area.

The new 109 Gateway Bridge opened in March.
