A 35-year-old north Nashville man said to have psychological issues has been accused of having murdered his uncle inside their Beals Lane home Friday, according to a press release. The release said he will be confined to Middle Tennessee Mental Health Institute (MTMHI) pending consultation with the district attorneys office on criminal charges.

Larry Holmes is presently being medically evaluated at General Hospital. His transfer to MTMHI is anticipated in the near future.

Holmes uncle, Johnny Odom, 59, appeared to have been severely beaten. He was pronounced dead upon arrival at Skyline Medical Center.

The police department was called to the home at 10 a.m. by Metro Health Department representatives and mental health workers who were visiting for separate issues. They reported that Holmes answered the door with blood on his face. They saw considerable blood inside the residence and Odom down on the floor.

North Precinct Officers Nathan Mayo and James Wray responded.  Just as they stepped inside and saw Odom, Holmes attacked them and drove them onto the front porch.  The officers wrestled with Holmes for a brief time before subduing him.

Mental health workers came to the residence after receiving a report from a relative that Holmes had shoved her and was behaving strangely.

The release said the investigation continues.
