Man with Diabetes Sparks Movie Theater Food Conversation

Stream WZTV Fox 17 Newscasts LIVE starting with Fox 17 This Morning at 5am and News at 9pm.

A New York man with diabetes was escorted of out a movie theater because he brought strawberries in with him. (People with diabetes usually need to carry snacks with them to keep their insulin in check).

According to the New York Post, financial analyst Michael Kass was told he could not bring his strawberries into a screening of Divergent at Pavillion Theater in New York City on March 23. That being the case, he asked for a refund of his movie ticket. He was denied, so he went into the movie. Ten minutes later, the theater called the police and escorted him out.

Kass complained about the incident on the movie theater's Facebook page. The newspaper reports that the theater has since apologized.

"I think the way the situation was handled was not correct and we apologize sincerely," movie theatre owner Ben Kafash told The News hours after he made amends with moviegoer Michael Kass.

Kafash tells the paper he will look into providing healthier food at his movie theater. Any changes, of course, would be limited to his establishment.
