SMYRNA, Tenn. -- A teenager was killed Thursday while changing the tire for his mom and sister on the side of the road on I-24 near exit 68, according to a police official.

Tina L. Wilson, 33, of Murfreesboro was arrested for leaving scene of fatal crash.

According to the incident report, Wilson was traveling westbound on I-24 when she lost control changing lanes. She went off the road and struck a 13-year-old boy changing the tire of their family's broken down car. The teen's mother and sister saw the accident. The mother is reported to have minor injuries.  Wilson is accused of leaving the scene. A witness in another car followed behind and called the police.

Sgt. Bill Miller with the Tennessee Highway Patrol said it appears an intoxicated driver who did not move over is to blame. He expressed his frustration at constantly seeing drinking and driving accidents.

"That is a message that we are not going to get tired of communicating, and we're going to do our job and enforce that," Miller said. "This crash came in at approximately 12:40 p.m. This person on a Thursday afternoon is under the influence of an intoxicant -- Thursday afternoon at 12:40 p.m., not a Friday night, not a Saturday night. This is an epidemic that is happening all during the week, all periods of time. And it can be avoided, and it should be."
