NASHVILLE, Tenn. The woman who THP investigators say hit and killed a 13-year old boy Thursday, while suspected of under the influence of drugs, was headed to an addiction treatment facility at the time of the crash, a department spokesperson said.

The crash happened just after 12:30 p.m. near Smyrna.  The driver, Tina Wilson, 33, and a passenger named Jennifer Hernandez were going to the AMC clinic in Antioch, 12 miles away, a THP spokesperso says.

Wilson is charged with vehicular homicide and aggravated vehicular assault after the car she was driving struck and killed Clifton Braunwalder, investigators said.

Clifton was changing a tire for his mom on the shoulder, investigators said.

Wilson is also charged with leaving the scene of the deadly crash.  Investigators said she drove for another 12 miles after the crash.

Friends say Clifton was a football player and a boy scout who always looked on the bright side.

I think that's the lesson that we have to take is just to embrace each and every day, said Rob Thomas, family friend.  It truly is a gift every day and just make it the best you can make it because you just don't know when something's going to happen.

Thomas said, Cliftons mother who was hurt in the crash is recovering.
