Tips for Home Insurance to Cover Storm Damage -- Sky Arnold

Stream WZTV Fox 17 Newscasts LIVE starting with Fox 17 This Morning at 5am and News at 9pm.

Strong storms Friday morning sent wind gusts of 80 miles an hour through parts of Rutherford County.

Some of those winds tore up the trim of Fred Brewer's home just outside of Murfreesboro.
"I can't hardly believe that I tell you 80 miles an hour," said Brewer.
The storm also destroyed a car port next door along with plenty of trees in the area.

Brewer expects his insurance company to come survey the damage on Monday and he will have plenty of company.

Allison May with Allstate Insurance says it's typical for companies to cover wind damage but she says the storm should be a reminder for everyone to take a look at their own policies.

Do you have enough coverage for additions or expensive items inside is a good question to ask yourself.

You should also take pictures of your possessions.
"Now really is a good time look at your coverage because once the storm hits it's too late," said May.

That's true of auto policies too as falling trees might be covered by them.

That wasn't the case in Brewer's neighborhood though he still can't believe it.

Brewer's neighbor's truck is fine even though the car port above it is destroyed.
"I don't know how it happened how that thing come off that truck didn't touch the truck or nothing," said Brewer.
