Section of I-24 Closed For Cable Barrier Construction

Stream WZTV Fox 17 Newscasts LIVE starting with Fox 17 This Morning at 5am and News at 9pm.

CHRISTIAN COUNTY, KY.--The westbound ramps at the I-24 and KY 115 Exit 89 Interchange for Oak Grove and Pembroke have been closed today as the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet conducts major reconstruction to the area to install cable barriers and cement base reinforcement. Both the exit and entrance ramps at the interchange will be closed during the construction.

Fox 17's Sky Arnold focused on the stretch of highway last April examining the number of deaths which could have been prevented with cable barriers. According to the Federal Highway Administration, most states that have installed such barriers "report a decrease in cross-median crash fatalities of 90 percent or more."

Drivers can use several detours, including the I-24/US 41 Exit 86 Exchange for Hopkinsville and Ft. Campbell. Once work is completed on the westbound ramps, the eastbound ramps will be next in line for updates.
