Pregnant Woman Kicked Out of Gym for Visible Baby Bump

A pregnant South Carolina woman was asked to leave the gym because her baby bump was visible, according to the Daily Mail.

Melissa Mantor, 31, who has been pregnant for 18 weeks, was on a treadmill at a Planet Fitness in Charleston, South Carolina when an employee came over to her and asked her to leave. The employee said she was in violation of the dress code because "her belly was hanging out"

Mantor told the news agency this was the first day she was visibly pregnant.

The employee pointed to the part of the dress code that prohibits bare midriffs.

The employee told Mantor to go home and get her belly covered up. Before Mantor left the gym, the employee handed her a large, black T-shirt.

When Mantor got home, the newspaper reports, she called the manager who didn't respond. She cancelled her membership the next day. Since then, a representative of Planet Fitness has called her and offered her a free month membership, but Mantor refused.

"It's hard enough to get motivated as it is without being made to feel like my body is offensive and that I'm dressed inappropriately," she told the paper.
