Christian County Calls In Reinforcement To Treat Roads

Stream Fox 17 newscasts LIVE starting with TN Mornings at 5 am and News at 9 pm.

CHRISTIAN COUNTY, Ky. -- Icy roads are still a concern on interstates in south western Kentucky, but help has been called.

Fourteen crashes occurred in the last hour of Tuesday night, mainly on I-24 East between mile markers 81 and 86, according to the Kentucky Transportation Board. They say many drivers were attempting to pass other vehicles using the snow-packed passing lane.

Six salt trucks are being called out from neighboring counties this morning to assist crews in treating roads throughout the day. Ice is reported from near the Christian-Trigg line to near the Ky.-Tenn. line.

A special crew will then return to the area to cut through several inches of ice in the passing lanes of I-24.
