GALLATIN, Tenn. -- The bridge connecting Wilson and Sumner counties will open this weekend.

The $29.6 million bridge will replace a 60-year-old bridge the Tennessee Department of Transportation says will eventually need to be torn down.

TDOT estimates 16,000 vehicles cross that bridge every day.  That number is expected to almost double by 2035.

"This bridge is certainly vital to Sumner and Wilson county, often being called kind of a gateway bridge to these two areas connecting those communities," said Deanna Lambert, TDOT spokesperson.

Two lanes will open to traffic Saturday.  The project should be complete by Fall, 2014, Lambert said.
